Published Fri, 01 Nov 2024 00:18:06 GMT
Many of the top races in Denver’s municipal election were tight as officials continued to count ballots into Tuesday night, while several races — including the mayor’s race — appeared to be headed for runoffs in June.Unofficial results showed that voters were shying away from Denver’s most liberal factions while outright rejecting a proposal that would have allowed a developer to build on a massive plot of land in Park Hill.As of 11:30 p.m., the Denver Elections Division reported that 110,000 ballots had been counted, with about 65,000 ballots remaining to be counted, spokesman Ryan Jeffers said in an email late Tuesday night. That means results could still change in some tight races.Overall, the estimated turnout is about 33% of all registered voters, or 38% of active voters (designated based on their voter history). The 33% figure would trail overall turnout in the 2019 municipal election but would exceed turnout in 2015 and back in 2011, the last tim...Marshall fire victims with lower incomes, less insurance lag in rebuilding, study finds

By Roni Caryn Rabin, The New York TimesFor decades, scientific studies suggested moderate drinking was better for most people’s health than not drinking at all, and could even help them live longer.A new analysis of more than 40 years of research has concluded that many of those studies were flawed and that the opposite is true. The review found that the risks of dying prematurely increase significantly for women once they drink 25 grams of alcohol a day, which is less than two standard cocktails containing 1.5 ounces of distilled spirits, two 12-ounce beers or two 5-ounce glasses of wine. The risks to men increase significantly at 45 grams of alcohol a day, or just over three drinks. The new report, which analyzed more than 100 studies of almost 5 million adults, was not designed to develop drinking recommendations, but to correct for methodological problems that plagued many of the older observational studies. Those reports consistently found that moderate drinkers were less likely ...Latest news
