___Is it a ‘skip’ or a ‘pause’? Federal Reserve won’t likely raise rates next week but maybe next monthWASHINGTON (AP) — Don’t call it a “pause.” When the Federal Reserve meets next week, it is widely expected to leave interest rates alone — after 10 straight meetings in which it has jacked up its key rate to fight inflation. But what might otherwise be seen as a “pause” will likely be characterized instead as a “skip.” The difference? A “pause” might suggest that the Fed may not raise its benchmark rate again. A “skip” implies that it probably will — just not now. The purpose of suspending its rate hikes is to give the Fed’s policymakers time to look around and assess how much higher borrowing rates are slowing inflation.___CNN ousts CEO Chris Licht after a brief, tumultuous tenureNEW YORK (AP) — Chris Licht was ousted as chief executive at CNN, following a series of missteps and plunging ratings. PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Oakland Athletics began a three-game series in Pittsburgh by essentially doing whatever they could to give away what became a 15th straight road loss. The fundamentals manager Mark Kotsay keeps telling his players they need to be great at were lacking. Yet, rather than have one missed opportunity bleed into another, the A’s responded by doing something that’s been almost historically rare during the first two months of the season. They won. Twice.Ryan Noda homered and reached base four times and Hogan Harris took advantage of a massive first inning by his teammates oN Wednesday to earn his first major league victory, 9-5 over Pittsburgh.Less than 18 hours after winning on the road for the first time in a month, Oakland jumped on Roansy Contreras (3-5) early to capture a series for just the third time in 2023.“Monday night was not great by any measure,” Kotsay said. “And for them to understand that, to realize and recognize it and come out and be bette...Messi heads to Miami as latest big name to raise soccer’s profile in US

He was 34 at the time and perhaps no longer “The King.” But he was still a commanding presence on the field and his name brought a buzz the sport lacked in North America.Pelé scored 64 goals in three season for the Cosmos, leading them to the 1977 le...Actor Jay Johnston, known for ‘Bob’s Burgers’ character, arrested on Capitol riot charges

Rory McIlroy, the strongest voice against Saudi-funded LIV Golf that caused so much disruption in golf, said Wednesday he now feels like a “sacrificial lamb” with the stunning reversal of the PGA Tour becoming partners with Saudi Arabia’s enormous wealth fund.It was McIlroy who helped lead a players-only meeting last August that reshaped the PGA Tour to fend off the challenge of LIV Golf. He has been the loudest critic, a member of the tour’s policy board. And he was among the last to hear the news shortly before it broke.“It’s hard for me to not sit up here and feel somewhat like a sacrificial lamb, and feeling like I’ve put myself out there and this is what happens,” McIlroy said at the RBC Canadian Open, where he is the two-time defending champion.“Again, removing myself from the situation, I see how this is better for the game of golf. There’s no denying that,” he said, “But for me as an individual, yeah, there’s just going to have to be...Virginia regulators advance Youngkin plan to leave climate initiative he calls ineffective
