A California homeowner woke up and found a wild coyote sleeping on an outdoor patio couch this past week. KTLA's sister station KRON reports. The San Francisco resident called animal control officers out of concern that the animal was injured or unwell, according to officials. As it turns out, the coyote was just super comfortable.San Francisco Animal Care and Control officer Laura Mullen responded to the call and said the coyote refused to move when the homeowner walked up to it. "I approached the coyote and started talking to him, telling him that it was time to get up," Mullen wrote on the agency's Facebook page. "He looked at me, got up, took a big stretch and made his way to the edge of the yard." NEW YORK (AP) — Sheryl Crow and Olivia Rodrigo kicked off the 2023 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony Friday night and Missy Elliott closed the show more than four hours later with a roof-shaking set, as the hall celebrated a strong representation of women and Black artists.Chaka Khan, Kate Bush, “Soul Train” creator Don Cornelius, The Spinners and DJ Kool Herc were also inducted in a celebration of funk, art-rock, R&B and hip-hop, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Country music was represented by Willie Nelson, punk had Rage Against the Machine, the late George Michael repped pure pop and Link Wray defined guitar heroes. The ceremony’s strong representation of Black and women artists this year came not long after the hall removed Rolling Stone co-founder Jann Wenner from its board of directors. Wenner, who also co-founded the hall, had said that Black and female musicians “didn’t articulate at the level” of the white musicians featured in his new book of in...Horse death toll rising at Golden Gate Fields, the Bay Area’s last racetrack

BERKELEY — Fifteen horses have now died at Golden Gate Fields racetrack so far in 2023 — a rising toll that continues to cloud the final months of operation at the Bay Area’s last standing racetrack. The latest equine fatality was on Oct. 30, when 6-year-old thoroughbred Kind Of Gallant passed away during a training session, according to records from the California Horse Racing Board’s equine fatalities database. His cause of death has not yet been released.Kind Of Gallant was the seventh horse to die within a 40-day span since late September at Golden Gate Fields, located along the shoreline at 1100 Eastshore Hwy.Of the 72 deaths that have occurred across seven different California race tracks so far in 2023, roughly 20% have occurred at Golden Gate Fields. However, there does not appear to be a consistent pattern connecting the deaths or any one trainer involved in a disproportionate number of fatalities at the storied racetrack, which has straddled the border between Be...CCS football playoffs: Matchups are set. NEW CCS FORMAT: HOW OPEN/DIVISION I WORKSFor years, the Central Coast Section had an Open Division designated for its best teams. Then it had three Open Divisions, dividing its presumed 24 best teams into three divisions based on enrollment. Then it scrapped the Open Division when the section went to a competitive-equity model. Now, the Open Division is back. Sort of. Following the model that the neighboring North Coast Section has used for the past two seasons, the CCS is calling its top division Open/Division I. The NCS went to the model to create a lane for a Division I school to advance to a regional without having to beat De La Salle, something nobody from the NCS has done since 1991. The CCS has added it to allow a second team from its top division to play beyond the section playoffs. Here is how it works: The No. 1 seed plays the No. 8 seed and the No. 2 seed plays the No. 7 seed in the first round. The winners meet for the Open title in the second week of the playoffs. GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — The Los Angeles Rams already had a losing record even before Matthew Stafford got hurt.Their performance in rainy conditions Sunday showcased how much worse they are without their veteran Super Bowl-winning quarterback. With Stafford unavailable because of a thumb injury, the Rams failed to reach the end zone against Green Bay’s injury-riddled defense. Brett Rypien took over for Stafford and went 13 of 28 for 130 yards with two turnovers as the Rams fell 20-3 for their third straight loss.“I’m not really sure what to think right now,” Rypien said. “All I know that that was clearly not good enough.”Stafford hadn’t practiced all week after spraining a ligament in his right thumb in a 43-20 loss at Dallas. Rypien said he didn’t learn for sure that he’d be starting until Friday but had a pretty good idea beforehand because Stafford couldn’t grip the ball.Rams coach Sean McVay said after the game that Stafford is making “good progress” in his recovery.
